MAHINDRA VERITO

MAHINDRA VERITO

The Verito offers a lot of value because it offers a lot for very little money. It was born as a Dacia, Renault-Nissan’s budget badge, and sold in India in collaboration with Mahindra as the Logan. A facelift or two later, it was solely a Mahindra product and rebadged the Verito. The Verito has moved upmarket bit by bit, while still managing to keep its price tag at the ‘value’ end of the scale. And now, Mahindra has taken the Verito one step ahead with a fully electric powertrain.

In terms of looks, the Verito has gained premium with every iteration. The headlamps have incorporated styling elements while the grille is splashed with chrome. The boxy sedan silhouette from the original shell has been retained with its flared wheel arches. The tail lamps now have light guides along with another dash of chrome on the boot-lid.

A large part of the Verito’s appeal is in its sheer interior volume. It gets massive legroom, the impressively increased tactility of the buttons, the smartly designed centre console and power windows on the driver’s door. The hydraulic power steering is direct and weighs up well. The rode quality of the sedan is plush and does not affect the handling around corners. For safety, the top-spec car gets ABS and a driver airbag.

Under the hood, you get the tried and tested Renault 1.5-litre diesel engine to power the sedan. The 1461cc turbocharged diesel engine develops 65bhp of power and 160nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The torquey engine spools up around 1800rpm and delivers a fuel economy of 21kmpl. Mahindra has also introduced the e-Verito, a completely electric powered car. It gets a (30.5kW) and 41bhp electric motor driving the front wheels. The e-Verito is capable of doing a top speed of 86kmph while it runs 100kms on a full charge. You can opt for a one hour 45 minutes quick recharge, but if you want avail the full range, you will have to charge it for eight hours and 45 minutes.

The Verito competes with the Toyota Etios and the Ford Classic, at the lower rung of the sedan segment in the Indian market. But, amongst all sedans in India, this is the only car which offers an environment-friendly all-electric option.
